Get to know one of our awesome Team Members, Katie Taves! We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of moms here at FIT4MOM LSBWK NoVa, and we want you to get to know a little more about each one of them. So for July, we'll put the spotlight on Katie Taves, Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre Instructor for our Springfield/Kingstowne Village.
Katie was the first instructor I took a class from and she was welcoming and provided modifications for me when needed. Katie is encouraging and isn’t hesitant to try new things during a workout. Katie is very sweet and always asks questions about my child and how she is doing. I enjoy my work outs and feel as though she pushes me!
~Mandy Welch, Springfield Village
Katie was one of the first good friends I made at Stroller Strides nearly two years ago. When I’m running late (nearly every morning) I can always count on her friendly smile to brighten my morning. I love that Katie make us count out loud…and calls us out when we’re not loud enough! My 2 year old can now count to 20 and down from 10 because of it! Kati is an unbelievable mother, a motivation instructor, overall rockstar…and have you seen her biceps??
Read on to get to know more about Katie and her time with FIT4MOM LSBWK NoVa.
1. Who are the members of your family?
Myself, husband Kurt, and 2 year old Grayson
2. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in NoVa?
I’m originally from Virginia Beach and after we got married, we moved to NOVA. We’ve been in the area about 7 years now.
3. Where do you typically teach?
Kingstowne and Springfield Mall
4. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.
I joined Fit4Mom as a member when Grayson was 6 weeks old. About a year later, I became an instructor. A few close mom friends from the village moved away, and part of me felt like I might stop coming to classes even though I knew it was important for Grayson and I. I have a fitness instructing background, so I knew as an instructor it’d keep me coming and I’d have to show up for other moms!
5. What is your favorite thing to teach?
Stroller Strides. It’s fun for mamas and kiddos and at the same time a great workout.
6. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
The example we’re setting for the little ones. I love when the kids are old enough to say “Go, mama, go!”
7. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
Staying connected to other moms. Of course I’d heard it, but I didn’t actually realize how important having a “village” is in motherhood.
8. What is one of your current wellness goals?
I ran a lot before I had Grayson, and it’s something I’d really like to get back into. I’d like to be ready for a 10k by the fall.
9. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I’ve always loved dance and used to teach Zumba!
