Motivating MOM of the month November

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for November! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM LSBWK NoVa Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Jennifer Taylor from our Springfield village!

“Jennifer is very witty and makes me smile. It’s such a pleasure having her in classes. I first met Jennifer when Hazel was a newborn; she was with us at Stroller Strides during her maternity leave. I didn’t think we’d see her return due to her demanding work schedule. However, since we offer evening Body Back classes it gave her the opportunity to participate again. Her work stories always have me intrigued as I love hearing about all the different things Jennifer gets to experience during the day. She is such a wonderful mom to her two kids and makes balancing motherhood and career look easy. I’m so thankful that our paths crossed!”

We asked Jennifer a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

1. Who are the members of your family?

Husband Bart, son Hudson (2), and daughter Hazel (turns one in December).

2. What is/was your career?

I am a research physicist for the Navy; specifically, I have the very unique job of building atomic clocks for U.S. precise timekeeping.

3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Lorton-Springfield-Burke-Woodbridge~Kingstowne, and what has it done for you?

I began Stroller Strides in January of 2017 while on maternity leave with my daughter. I was nervous about being cooped up inside postpartum during the gloomiest time of the year, and the exercise and social interaction kept me upbeat, engaged, and in a routine while off work. This, plus Body Back, has also helped me regain physical (and mental!) strength and endurance after my two pregnancies.

4. What is your favorite class exercise?

Any floor ab exercise

5. What is one of your current wellness goals?

Incorporating regularly scheduled exercise into my routine: Evening Body Back classes fit well into my schedule; I am also in the habit of walking each morning with a friend at work.

6. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

How smart kids are; they are capable of doing and understanding so many things much earlier than I ever thought.

7. List 3 of your favorite things.

Time alone at my house

Hot showers

Eating dessert

8. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

When my toddler says "I love you" and "thank you, mommy!" unprompted.

9. Any advice for other moms out there?

Keep things in perspective: a bad day is just one day, or maybe even just a few hours of the day. A difficult phase your child is going through will eventually pass. And even in the midst of a difficult situation, there can still be moments of joy if you're open to see them.

Jennifer, it has been amazing to see what you have accomplished first in Stroller Strides on maternity leave and most recently in Body Back! We are lucky to have you in our village!
