MOM of the Month-March Rosa N.png

Motivating MOM of the month March!

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for March! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM LSBWK NoVa Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Rosa Noonan from our Woodbridge village!

Rosa is one of the kindest and most generous women I have ever encountered! From the very first day that we met I instantly connected with her. She is the first person to welcome any new mama to class and make them feel comfortable included. Her smile is infectious and you can tell that she is a genuine and warm-hearted person from your first conversation together. Rosa has not had the easiest experience with motherhood but that does not affect her attitude in any way. She is always positive and looks on the bright side of any situation. She has not lost her dedication and motivation during classes even with a toddler and another little one on the way. She takes classes at Woodbridge and Burke rarely taking a day off and continues to show up for class and push herself in every day. Where do you get all that energy? She is an inspiration to all the moms in class and such an integral part of our village. Thank you Rosa for being you, I am honored to be able to call you my friend!”

~Heather Hamtak, Stroller Strides Instructor

We asked Rosa a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Where are you originally from?

Woodbridge. My family is still here and we are staying with them for the time being.

When did you join FIT4MOM?

We joined last summer. My Mom saw an ad for it, and we came. After that first workout I WAS HOOKED! I couldn't believe I could get such a good workout in while Jai stayed content. Then when the Littles played afterward it was just a dream come true, a win-win!

What classes do you attend?

We started with Stroller Strides/Barre and stuck with it. I Love that Jai is a part of it, so I don’t need to find childcare.

Who is your workout buddy and their age?

Jai, he's 22 months. He's my Life Force, my victorious little one (that's what his name means in Sanskrit), and my number #1 defier in life!💖

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?

Everything really! It gives us structure to our days. I schedule everything around the classes. And you know, it is my Village and I’m so Thankful! I’ve been living on St. Thomas, Virgin Island for 10 years and I have a community/village there. I miss it terribly and I find people are so busy up here. So I’ve really enjoy spending time and sharing experiences with other Moms who are mainly at home with their littles - that’s been my Village here and I’m so grateful!

Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?

That being said, I think having a Village is most important! That’s how we learn and grow and relate to one another. We are really lacking that this day and age, many people keep to themselves. We are social beings and we need each other. Everyone holds these gems of wisdom that they learned from their families, circles and experiences, so when we get together those gems are shared, it's awesome! So many times I come home from class and I'm like, "Guess what I found out today...guess what I learned...someone told me this interesting thing I never heard of..." It's so enriching, and priceless!

How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices?

Fit4Mom hasn’t changed my lifestyle choices, it’s exactly how my lifestyle was. However, before joining Fit4Mom it was hard to get that workout in because Jai wasn’t having it, and it wasn’t so easy getting in regular playdates with other Moms and babes. Now everything is in a one stop shop…win!

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

Though I mainly stay at home with Jai, I can work on the side which is nice. My background is in Massage Therapy, Birth Doula work and Yoga. I’m self-employed and go to client’s homes with my table and supplies, and same with the Birth Doula work. In St. Thomas, I’m fully established and have a full out call business. Since we’ve been back and forth for a year and a half I haven’t really promoted my work here since it’s been a little stop and go. Now we’re having Baby #2 in a couple months so I’ve just been taking it easy for the most part with Jai.

What is your favorite beverage?

Aqua, café and vino, depending on the day the order is in reverse.

What is your favorite dessert?

Haagen Daz Coffee Ice Cream and my Grandmother's Apple Pie. I'm also such a sucker for homemade Flan. But I don't know who I'm kidding, I don't discriminate against desserts - I'm known as the Cookie Monster in our home...

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

I would get a 2-hour massage then bronze in the sun with a great read. Oh how I miss that! That has definitely been non-existent for me since Jai has been born. My reading now consists of parenting/child articles, which I enjoy, but it's just not the same as delving into a great book.

What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?

I actually want to go on vacations with our kids. I want them to have that exposure of travel and different elements. However, one thing I miss doing that I did every year prior to having a family is going on a continuing education/retreat. The next one I have my eye on is a 10-day Restorative Yoga Teacher Training at Yogaville (my spiritual home). Those are always such yummy experiences. I leave with a new modality under my belt and my batteries fully recharged...bliss!

How has becoming a mother changed you?

Gosh, that's a big question, I've changed in SO MANY WAYS! I thought I had sh*% so figured out before Jai came along. Holy Mother was I wrong! Motherhood has humbled me completely! The only thing I know is that I don’t know anything. Jai was born with a condition called Hirschprung’s Disease, and he’s gone through a series of reconstructive surgeries on his intestines. Our “normal” was very abnormal. He’s doing great now though, he’s happy, whole & healthy, we are in a good place!

So, I guess in short, I'm more humbled, a hell of a lot stronger, and a little bit wiser...just a little.

I am happiest when...

My house is clean, Jai poops, and my head is on Jon's chest as we can laugh about the cuteness or chaos of the day.

Check back to see who our MOM will be in April 2018!
