Motivating MOM of the month August
We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for August! Each month we take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM LSBWK NoVa Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Octavia Cross from our Springfield/Kingstowne/Lee District village!
“I just love having Octavia and Clyde in class. She is always so happy and positive. She always pushes herself so hard during class. She runs to each station and pushes for each move. She’s just awesome! Plus, her whole family embraces fitness on the weekend. Her family goes for hikes all around DC together.”
~Robin Houlahan, Stroller Strides Instructor and Run Club Coach
“I always enjoy having Octavia in class! She works hard, is motivating, and her personality is friendly and welcoming. She’s always taking the option to run between stations and I can usually hear her counting down with me during the cardio burst, which I love!”
~Katie Taves, Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre Instructor
“Octavia has a wonderful presence, as a class participant and as a mother. She always participates in playgroup, connecting with other moms and giving Clyde time to make friends as well. She works so hard and always brings 110%, even when it is hot and sticky outside. I really enjoy having her in class and love her enthusiasm and energy!”
~Jenna Parkhurst, Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre, and Fit4Baby Instructor
Where are you originally from?
When did you join FIT4MOM?
What classes do you attend?
Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre (Springfield, Lee District, and Kingstowne). I love that there are so many options so close to me!!
Who is your workout buddy and their age?
Clyde III (C3 to some), he’s 21 months.
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?
I love that it checks so many of my boxes. I can get my workout done while still watching my son. He’s entertained and gets to play with friends and do fun crafts. And most importantly I get to interact with other adults. Sorry I can’t just pick one thing J .
How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices?
So I use to be really active then I got married, entered a demanding career and eventually had a baby. Somewhere along the way I lost myself and my will to move. Since joining Fit4Mom, I workout every day, I have fitness goals again, and most importantly I have energy and feel great!
What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?
So I’m currently a stay at home mom and recently signed up as an Usborne books and More consultant. Before all that, I worked in Acquisitions for the Federal Government.
Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?
Definitely, you can’t do this mom thing alone. It’s so hard and I’ve found that no one but other moms really understand just how hard it is. I’m so thankful for this village. I get to learn from other moms and they are also there to step in at the right moment, just before you’re about to lose it on your kiddo.
What is your favorite beverage?
Right now, sparkling water. It’s funny because I use to hate it but it’s grown on me since to get to have all the flavor without any sweeteners and calories.
What is your favorite dessert?
I love all things desserts so I don’t know if I could choose. Maybe a really good peach cobbler or apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Or banana pudding...ugh see what I mean lol.
You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?
Have a date night with my husband. Maybe get a couples massage followed by dinner and a movie and of course dessert :-)
What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?
We love the Sandals resorts and I can’t wait to be able to go back. We loved Jamaica so maybe go back there again and try one of their other resorts.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
It’s definitely given me more patience and flexibility. Before becoming a mom I was neither of those things.
I am happiest when...Seeing my son smile ;-)
