March 10, 2017
We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for March! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Eliana Falls from our Woodbridge village!
“Eliana is a model of determination. If you want inspiration, look for Eliana. She knows what she wants and she goes for it! She is also a wonderful mom and role model to her Lorelai. And a great friend to boot. Definitely an awesome part of our village!
~Kathryn K., Stroller Strides and Running Club Instructor
“Eliana is a joy to have at each and every Stroller Strides class she attends! She is truly beautiful inside and out. I love Eliana’s positive attitude and energy, and she is always willing to give her all during classes. We are lucky and very thankful to have Eliana and her adorable daughter, Lorelai, as part of our Woodbridge Village!”
~Kelli R., Stroller Strides Instructor
We asked Eliana a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
My husband Michael, myself, my daughter Lorelai (2), and my three Siberian Huskies: Glory (6.5), Summit (6), and Denali (5.5).
2. What is/was your career?
Prior to meeting my husband I was in the visual arts field, pursuing an Interior Design/Visual Arts degree. Things got serious fast between us, so I ended up taking a break from school so I could support him on his upcoming move to upstate NY and deployment to Iraq with the U.S. Army. Since then we have lived in 5 different duty stations in our (almost) 10 years together. Once we got back to Texas, I actually entered the Educational field and currently, I am on my last year at Arizona State University. My focus is in English as Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual Education. This field is dear to my heart as I was once an ESL student, and managed to learn English under one year thanks to my high school’s ESL program.
We married very young, and have moved on average every 2-3 years, so most of my experience in the work force has been retail/customer service (Zales, Hallmark Cards), crafting for handmade businesses, and volunteer work with the Army.
3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Lorton-Springfield-Burke-Woodbridge, and what has it done for you?
I joined FIT4MOM last summer when the first Woodbridge/Stonebridge classes started. I am currently part of Stroller Strides and Body Back, and it has been a life changing experience for both Lorelai and myself! We have both made some amazing friends, and it has helped me get closer and closer to my fitness/wellness goals.
4. What is your favorite class exercise?
I like wall sits and squats! Really, anything but burpees. ;)
5. What is one of your current wellness goals?
To continue losing weight, toning up, and maintaining good nutrition.
6. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
As a first time mom, I had this grand idea of how things were going to go from day one. The truth is, babies and structured plans go together much like oil and water. I have learned to let go of some of those things, learned to listen to my baby’s cues, and let my daughter lead me on some aspects. Once I learned to do what works for us (and not what I read on every mommy blog) things made so much more sense!
7. List 3 of your favorite things.
- My little family
- Coffee/Wine ;)
8. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
Seeing my daughter use her signs and new words at speech therapy, makes me tear up every single time. Some of you know that Lorelai was diagnosed with a joint attention disorder and a severe speech delay in both receptive and expressive language at 20 months. When we first started she could not focus or attempt to use any communication cues. She has come such a long way since October, and I beam with joy every time she reaches a new milestone.
9. Any advice for other moms out there?
Do what works for you and your baby! In today’s society you will find tons of articles to support almost every theory of what is “right” out there. The truth is, what works for one kid does not always work for the other.
Eliana, we are in awe of you, Mama! Between being a full time student, mom and wife, you are making yourself a priority and we love watching your transformation. Thank you for being a great example for our village!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in April 2017!
