December Instructor Spotlight – Kathryn Knigge
We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa, and we want you to get to know a little more about each one of them. So for December, we'll put the spotlight on Kathryn Knigge, Run Club Coach and Stroller Strides Instructor.
‘Kathryn is just a sweetheart. She is an amazing mother to Delilah and brings her to every class. Kathryn always conveys such a positive presence wherever she goes. In class, she is professional, caring, and goes above and beyond by offering all of us her advice and support. She truly gives her all in each class she teaches and is always coming up with creative activities for both the moms and kids. She is a wonderful inspiration to us all!’
~Eliana F. (Woodbridge Village Stroller Strides)
I first met Kathryn when I decided to join the FIT4MOM Run Club. It was daunting, since I didn't consider myself a runner, but she showed me otherwise. Kathryn was able to teach me techniques and stretches that helped me progress week by week. At times, it was very challenging, but such an educational experience for me. Kathryn is very knowledgeable, supportive and most important she became friends not just with me, but everyone in the group. She taught me how strong and dedicated I can be. The most rewarding part of the club was meeting all the wonderful moms and finally running my first 5K ever!
~Christina A. (Run Club member, Stroller Strides & Body Back!)
‘Kathryn is such an awesome instructor, mother, and all around person. She is so dedicated when it comes to running, that she motivates everyone on their own fitness journeys. She is a kind and genuine person who is friendly and open with all. Lastly, she is an incredibly patient and sweet mother to little Delilah’

Read on to get to know more about Kathryn and her time with Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.
1. Who are the members of your family?
My husband, Kurt, and daughter, Delilah (2 yrs).
2. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in NoVa?
Born and raised in Springfield, VA. Guess I'm carrying on that tradition with Delilah.
3. Where do you typically teach?
Mainly in Woodbridge and Lorton, but I sub in all locations as needed
4. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.
I'm a big runner and working mom; I have run several half marathons and was always trying to figure out the best way to get in my cross training while not taking away from any time my daughter. When I found Stroller Strides it was the perfect fit! I tried the class and loved it, I got to spend time with Delilah and while I worked out she could be entertained! When the opportunity to teach came along I had to pounce, and am so glad I did. I have made wonderful friends and have gotten to be a part of a great group that can relate to my mothering journey.
5. What is your favorite thing to teach?
Running is my passion, so I absolutely enjoy the part of being the Run Club Coach. But Stroller Strides is great because it's a fun way to connect with your child and keep those healthy habits for yourself!
6. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
I love teaching because I love seeing that satisfaction in my mama's faces when they have done something empowering for themselves.
7. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
I mostly do it for Delilah; yes, I want to be healthy but what better motivation to stay in shape than knowing I have a mini-me following my every move. Already she has shown me how much of an impression I have been by working out in front of her. I walk into a room and she tells me she's doing jumping jacks or push-ups (her fav). I want to continue being a good role model for her and inspiring healthy habits.
8. What is one of your current wellness goals?
Finding the balance between just working out and mindfulness.
9. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I work full time as a book editor. Alongside running, teaching, and mothering I acquire authors to write criminal justice, military life, green living, anthropology, and archeology books for Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
10. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?
Believe that you can and you will!
Kathryn, thank you for your dedication to our village! We know how busy you are with your job and while we miss you at Stroller Strides, we are so proud of you and that you are a member of our team!
*Kathryn recently received a promotion at her full time job (Woo Hoo!), so she will be teaching Stroller Strides on substitute basis. However, she is still our awesome Run Club coach – new session February/March 2017
Check back in January for our next instructor spotlight!
