Instructor Spotlight September 2016!

We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa, and we thought it would be nice if we could get to know a little more about each one of them. So beginning this month, we’ll spotlight one of our team members each month. And for September we'll put the spotlight on Amber Merrick, Instructor for Stroller Strides and Body Back.

I first met Amber at our Grand Opening event at the Springfield Town Center in October 2014. She arrived with Jasmine and was so eager to participate in our Stroller Strides program. She signed up right away and has never looked back. Amber is the most dedicated person I have met. If you need anything, she is there to help out. Be it assistance with kids, borrowed items, rides, you name it – she is there.

When I launched Body Back in February of 2015 Amber was one of my first moms to sign up. She gave it 100% and really had amazing results. She is dedicated to leading a healthy lifestyle and to teach her child all about health and wellness. Definitely a mom to look up to.

In the summer of 2015 I decided to expand my team and to add more days to the Stroller Strides calendar. That is when I asked Amber to join in on the fun. She was on board from the get go. Amber began teaching Stroller Strides on our additional Tuesday/Thursday classes at the Springfield Town Center. Later on I asked her to take on more and to add Body Back to the schedule. Once again, she jumped on the opportunity. Amber is an asset to my franchise; she has gone above and beyond my expectations of an instructor. She is changing lives, one mom at a time.

Thank you for your devotion and belief in my company and my vision.

Read on to get to know more about Amber and her time with Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.

1. Who are the members of your family?

Kevin - Husband of almost 7 years; Jasmine - 2.5 years old

2. Where do you typically teach?

I teach Stroller Strides mainly in Springfield, sometimes I sub at other locations as needed and I also teach Body Back at 5:30am in Burke twice a week

3. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for FIT4MOM.

I started as a participant at Stroller Strides in October 2014 and a few months later Shannon began the first session of Body Back. I decided to try it, and really fell in love with it. I continued for 4 sessions and had outstanding results. I just loved everything about FIT4MOM. When Shannon expanded her Stroller Strides classes it became the perfect time for me to get certified as a Stroller Strides instructor. I took over some classes in Springfield, it was so fun getting to help other moms. I knew just how they felt, I had been there myself only a few months prior and I wanted to show them the awesomeness of FIT4MOM. A few months later, I offered to get Body Back certified just to be a back up to help Shannon out when needed; that luckily turned into even more, I know co-teach the morning Body Back session in Burke. I love teaching both programs.

4. What is your favorite thing to teach?

While I love teaching Stroller Strides, I must say the Body Back is my niche

5. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?

For Body Back, it is seeing the results of their hard work, how transformative it can be, both mind and body. It gives me great pleasure knowing that I can make a difference in so many lives. Seeing them push past their struggles and witnessing their dedication to becoming healthier moms is so rewarding. For Stroller Strides, it is seeing the children imitate their moms. It is amazing that we can not only give our moms fitness and friendships, but we also get to give our little ones a great fitness base to emulate.

6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

Just knowing that I am impacting moms and kiddos in my local community is my WHY. Teaching my child that it’s important to take care of yourself. I want our moms and children to learn from each class that living healthy is fun and achievable.

7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I am addicted to books. I ALWAYS have one with me and will stay up all night reading a new one. We have 8 full book shelves in the house and could use more – not sure my husband agrees – but it’s worth a shot!

Amber, thank you for being such an invaluable member of this team! We appreciate everything you do for our village!

Check back in October for our next instructor spotlight!
