Get to know our awesome team member, REBECCA NEWNUM!

March Instructor Spotlight – Rebecca Newnum

We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa, and we want you to get to know a little more about each one of them. So for March, we'll put the spotlight on Rebecca Newnum, Body Back, Stroller Barre and Stroller Strides Instructor.

Rebecca is a caring, considerate instructor who encourages the women in her classes to gently stretch their abilities and become stronger than they thought they could be. Her guidance in Stroller Strides and Body Back classes has allowed me to do things I didn't think possible and helped me get into the best shape of my life!”

~Laura D. (Burke Village Body Back and Stroller Strides)

“I met Rebecca on the first day that I joined Stroller Strides at Springfield town center. Her determination, warm smile, and care towards my daughter Ryann made me realize that I had found a friend and my village. I was blown away by her dedication to her fitness, her friendships, and her family. Rebecca always made it to class with 1, 3, or 4 kids in tow and an unstoppable persistence. She motivates me to be the best version of myself possible. After joining stroller barre, Rebecca has introduced a beautiful soreness to millions of muscles I never knew I had. She keeps my heart rate pumping at each station and never lets the smile fall from her face or ours. Rebecca is a rockstar mom, instructor, wife, and friend and I know we are lucky to have her.”

~Emily M. (Springfield Village Stroller Barre and Stroller Strides)

Read on to get to know more about Rebecca and her time with FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa.

1. Who are the members of your family?

Married to Brad and together we have four children. Katie is 10, twins Emma & Emily are 5, and out youngest is Mary 3.

2. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in NoVa?

I am originally from Mannheim Germany. My husband is active duty military so we have lived in many places across the nation, but we have lived in Springfield for almost 4 years.

3. Where do you typically teach?

I’m all over the franchise map! Generally you’ll find me teaching Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre and Body Back in Burke and Springfield. But I’m flexible and help out where needed.

4. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa.

I’ve been an active participant for over five years, it changed my life. When the opportunity arose to become an instructor for Shannon’s franchise, I just had to do. So in June 2016 I made the leap because I too wanted to help moms achieve their physical and emotional potential.

5. What is your favorite thing to teach?

My favorite move is a plank – doesn’t’ matter what variation, it can be a side plank, spider-man plank, plank with a shoulder tap ~ you name it..…AND of course BURPEES!

6. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor? What is your WHY?

I feel so blessed and honored to have the awesome responsibility of being an instructor! I get the chance to see moms change their lives and many times the lives of their families, as the FIT4MOM journey incorporates the children who then learn healthy habits at an early age. As a mom, we often feel alone when we are caring for our young children, having less contact with friends and family. The program allows for moms to develop a strong support group, that provides interaction, community, and strength that is not provided elsewhere. It is rewarding when moms come to class and are able to accomplish amazing strides, followed by a good laugh about the last time they slept or didn’t spill something. Too many times moms are so lost in their daily lives, they seldom take time for themselves to get away and relieve stress and frustrations. As an instructor, I work to provide them an avenue for relieving stress and a support network to voice frustrations. Most importantly, I am grateful for Shannon empowering me to be a vessel of change in women’s lives…sharing my own story of how this organization provided me a means for achieving strength, peace, and confidence. Because of our Fit4Mom programs, I am in the best shape of my life, emotionally, physically and spiritually and I look forward to every chance I get to provide another mom that same opportunity.

7. What is one of your current wellness goals?

My personal wellness goal is basically staying active and healthy for me and my family. I would love to run the Army 10 miler this year.

8. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I am from Germany but I do not like a lot of the traditional foods they have. FACT.

9. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

I love going on hikes in the mountains and explore nature in Germany and in the U.S.

Thank you Rebecca for being a wonderful example to our moms-showing them that your wellness goals ARE attainable! We are so incredibly lucky to have you on our team.

*If you’d like to take a class from Rebecca, she teaches Stroller Barre and Body Back in Burke ~ and hops around our franchise as needed! Thank you for all of your dedication, trust and friendship!

Check back in April for our next instructor spotlight.
