Motivating Mom of the Month Pic- Stephanee DellaCruz.jpg

August 2016 MOM of the month!

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for August! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Lorton~Springfield~Burke~Woodbridge Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Stephanee DellaCruz from our Woodbridge village!

"Stephanee is a model of dedication and motivation, always pushing herself out of her comfort zone. Even into new things like running! She has a great perspective on motherhood, and when a day seems tough she powers through making it look easy. So happy to have this strong mama in our village."

~Kathryn K., Stroller Strides Instructor

“We first met Stephanee and her handsome little boy Lincoln at our grand opening in Woodbridge in February of 2016. When she signed up, she had no idea what Stroller Strides was really about, but she stepped out of her comfort zone and had the best time. That moment changed her life - she gained support and friendships to carry her through motherhood.

She's been awarded 'Attendance of the Month' because she never misses an opportunity to get out and workout. She loves being engaged with her son and the other moms in the group, Stephanee really has a great time being a part of the playgroups and has recently fallen in love with running.

Her strength and determination are admirable. Her husband is active duty military and he travels a lot. That is such a hard thing on a new young family - but she doesn't let that get her down. She rocks! We're so thrilled to have her in our village.”

~Shannon L., Franchise Owner

We asked Stephanee a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

1. Who are the members of your family?

My husband, Steven, and I have been married for 7.5 years. Our son, Lincoln, will be 2 in September.

2. What is/was your career?

My husband is in the Army, which means we move a lot and holding onto one job is difficult. I have mainly worked in customer service, especially at credit unions. To raise money for our IVF procedure, I also had a small handmade shop. Now Lincoln is my full-time job.

3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Lorton-Springfield-Burke-Woodbridge, and what has it done for you?

I joined in February, when the Kid's Choice location opened in Woodbridge. We had just moved to Woodbridge in January, and I was eager to get out and meet people. Stroller Strides gives me something to do almost every day, which means I have something to look forward to. Not only do I get to stay active, but I also get to have adult conversation and watch my son play with other kids his age. I have met wonderful people, and Shannon has gone out of her way to always make me feel welcome and loved. I honestly could go on and on about what it has done for me so far.

4. What is your favorite class exercise?

I am a sucker for some squats!

5. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

I never expected to find so much joy and pride in the tiniest (to some) achievements and milestones. I also didn't realize that all day, every day, would be spent worrying about this little monster and whether I am raising him right.

6. List 3 of your favorite things.

Baby kisses, exercise, and reading (although I haven't read a non-baby book in almost 2 years)

7. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

Lincoln learning to walk was one of the proudest moments for me I think. He was born with a clubfoot and we expected him to experience delays with physical milestones because of it, but he surprised us all by actually hitting most of them early. Those that have seen him running around crazy at Stroller Strides can attest to the fact that nothing slows that kid down!

8. Any advice for other moms out there?

Enjoy the little moments. We spend so much time wrapped up in our busy lives or worrying/waiting for some big milestone that our kids are supposed to hit, that I think we forget to just enjoy where they are today. Every day is a milestone because you made it to that day. Hug your baby close. Oh, and don't beat yourself up for every "bad choice" you think you have made. When we know better, we do better, so just learn from it and move on.

Thank you, Stephanee, for your dedication to FIT4MOM Lorton~Springfield~Burke~Woodbridge! You are such an inspiration to the members of Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in September!
