"Laura makes fitness a family event with baby and hubby in tow. What a great example!"
~Heather H. (Springfield Village Stroller Strides)
Read on to get to know more about Laura and her time with Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.
1. Who are the members of your family?
James (husband), Nate (16 months), Newman and Arwen (cats) and Mojo (our Russian tortoise)
2. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in NoVa?
I grew up in Rhode Island. I've lived in NoVA since 2009 (Arlington, Alexandria and now Burke!).
3. Where do you typically teach?
Burke Lake Park and Springfield Town Center
4. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for Fit4Mom LSBW NoVa.
I started with Fit4Mom as a Body Back participant. I joined Body Back to meet other moms and lose a few pounds. Becky Krispin was my instructor, and she made the experience so positive for me! I still keep a note she gave me at the end of our BB session on my nightstand. She made me want to do the same for other moms by becoming an instructor, and I was lucky enough to be able to do so.
5. What is your favorite thing to teach?
6. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
Since I work full-time, I love being able to spend the time with my son (even though he is usually the least behaved of the babies!). I also love talking to other moms about mom stuff.
7. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
My family, especially my son. I want him to see me healthy and happy, and I want him to do the same. Being a mom has centered me, but it's also made me very aware of my own weaknesses and fears. As Nate grows, I grow with him. Every time he learns something, I learn something. Being a mom is the most important job anyone can do.
8. What is one of your current wellness goals?
Trying to recover from the holidays! I have a sweet tooth and love wine, so doing my best to cut back on both.
9. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
In college, I interned at DIY Network and got to work on a home makeover show called "Indoors Out." I won't spoil it for anyone, but makeovers shows aren't always what they seem :)
10. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?
I want everyone in Our Village to know that they are worth it! It's not easy to squeeze everything in, but taking time for your own health and well-being is the best investment you can make.
~Laura launched a new business in addition to her full-time job. Recently her and James began shopping for a new home, they found what they'd been looking for and will be moving to Stafford in the spring, With so many things to juggle we decided it was best to give her and her family the time they need to prepare, so she is not on our active teaching team but will sub as needed. Laura, thank you for everything you have done for Our Village. Good luck to you, James and Nate in all of your future endeavors!
Check back in February for our next instructor spotlight!
