Instructor Spotlight February 2017!

Get to know our awesome team member, LAUREN GIANNELLA!

February Instructor Spotlight – Lauren Giannella

We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa, and we want you to get to know a little more about each one of them. So for February, we'll put the spotlight on Lauren Giannella, Stroller Barre and Stroller Strides Instructor.

“Lauren is always bubbly and excited to teach class. She rarely does the same exercise twice which makes it a treat to go to class every week. You never know if you are going to have a partner wheelbarrow race or a team exercise around the fountain. She is also very attentive to the littles and tries to keep them all engaged. I always leave her class wondering how I am so sore because we always have so much fun, I forget we are working out!”

~Kathryn H. (Lorton Village Stroller Barre)

“I first met Lauren when we were cramped inside our small dance studio with 17 other moms and strollers! She came with her new found mom friend Lesa Taylor. I will always remember that day. The two of them were so close and so glad to have found something suitable for all. They were in need of a village. In the two years I’ve known Lauren, she has made so many close friends it’s amazing. Thank you Lauren! You’re a great team member!”

~Shannon Link (Franchise owner)

"I taught Stroller Strides when Lauren was a client way before Susanna was born. She is very dedicated to her kids and family. She loves her hometown of Key West. She also enjoys hanging with her friends who she would do anything for.”

~Amber M. (Stroller Strides and Body Back Instructor)

Read on to get to know more about Lauren and her time with FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa.

1. Who are the members of your family?

Well I'll start with my husband John. My fur babies, dog Luna & cat Toyota both are 13, my Annora is closing in on 3 way too fast & my baby Susanna will be 1 right behind her which is just unbelievable. I blinked and the time was gone!

2. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in NoVa?

I'm originally from the lil island of Key West Florida, yes people are from there & yes I'll be the only one you ever meet. :) I've been here for 3 years & it's really become home, mostly because it's the only home my girls know and I can't imagine life without this village! So after my husband’s next deployment we will be back for good!

3. Where do you typically teach?

I teach Stroller Barre at or around Melina's Dancing Garden. I also sub for Stroller Strides on occasion at Springfield Town Center.

4. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for FIT4MOM LSBW NoVa.

Wow this is a long one! I had been an active member of Stroller Strides for 2 years and my little one was sadly aging out of the stage where she was content to sit in the stroller for any long amount of time so it became work instead of a workout. So we stopped for the most part. Then I had little #2 and life changed again, Annora was heading off to preschool and an opportunity to teach came up. I chose something new to bring to the village because it's the type of workout that targets the small muscles it takes to keep my bum joints together.

5. What is your favorite thing to teach?

Definitely Stroller Barre but when I do sub Stroller Strides I get odd pleasure in making it as hard and fun of course as I can.

6. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?

I like surprising the girls with something new as often as I can and seeing how far they have come without them even realizing it. There's rarely anything I throw at my Stroller Barre moms that they can't do!

7. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

Stroller Strides literally changed my life in all the best ways. Through this village I gained lifelong friends, a new meaning to this new thing called motherhood, social enrichment and an example for my littles and confidence I didn't even realize I had lost. All my sisters were in the same boat and we have each other’s backs. I didn't know I even needed a village! What a terrible thing it would have been had Stroller Strides never come into my life. I would probably have moved back to Florida & gotten a divorce (new baby, quit my job and long hours & work trips from my husband = disaster). No (mom) lifelong friends, no sisterhood and the biggest of all no Susanna. And now looking at it when I know our next move is sadly on the horizon it will be something I can be proud to give back to the village that gave so much to me until I can come back home to it!

8. What is one of your current wellness goals?

To be more balanced in all ways!

9. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I am a diehard adventure seeker! Sky diving, bungie jumping, swimming with dolphins & sharks, working with wild animals with no bars between us lions & tigers & bears (oh my) YES! Been there & done that, now I'm looking forward to showing my daughters the world!

10. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

I'll be moving in August and I will miss you more than I can say. Thank you for giving me things I could never repay. I hope I added to this in my own way with my Barre village and was a friend when someone else needed it! I love you all and can't wait to see how everyone has grown when I get back in 2019!

Thank you Lauren for everything you have done for Our Village. The addition of Stroller Barre has challenged our Mamas in a whole new way!

*If you’d like to take a class from Lauren, she teaches Stroller Barre on Thursdays at 10:15am at Melina’s Dancing Garden in Lorton. She also substitute teaches Stroller Strides on occasion.

Check back in March for our next instructor spotlight!
